Inspiration and Enthusiasm

7/14/2010 4:43pm by Sara

One of the "perks" of participating in farmer's markets is that I get a healthy dose of contemplation time on the drives to and from the markets several times a week.  Lately, I've been thinking about my life's purpose and how the dream for Wild Type Ranch arose out of a pledge to myself to live life with integrity.

Early in life, I had very clear career goals, and most would call a success what I did and where I got to before Ralph and I started the ranch together in 2005.  It seems to me now, a greater success is being able to go through daily life inspired and enthused.  The roots of those words; "in spirit" and "in theos" (or "in God") speak to a way of living where all aspects of life resonate with one's "life purpose".  In other words, integrity.

I've experienced lots of inspiration and enthusiasm lately; spending time with my extended family, a new horse at our house, a pair of locavore/meet the farmer dinners and increasing demand for what we produce.

My boys often say that they can "taste the love" in the food we eat, when it is grown or prepared ourselves or by someone we know.  I think there is truth in that:  If your food is produced with inspiration and enthusiasm, how can it not taste better?

SATURDAY IS ROUND ROCK MARKET DAY:  We'll be at the Round Rock Farmer's Market this Saturday from 8-noon. The freezers will be completely restocked on Friday, so if we've been sold out of your favorite cut recently, be sure to stop out (or better yet, order ahead and we'll save it for you!)

LOCAVORE DINNER TO SUPPORT NEW FARMER'S MARKET in SALADO:  Adelea's Farmer's Market, Inc.  is a new farmer's market opening in Salado, promising to "cultivate a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food".  Adelea's on Main, is holding a fund-raising locavore dinner Thursday, July 15.  This four-course dinner will be prepared from local ingredients, featuring Wild Type Ranch short ribs in a horseradish sauce and Texas wines.  Seating is limited to 20 people to allow diners to get to know the featured farmers; Wild Type Ranch and Quinton and Jennifer Locklin.  A few seats are still available.  Please call Jennifer Lohse Angell at 254-947-0018 for more information.

CHANGE TO SUN CITY MARKET SCHEDULE:  Our Sun City customers have been some of our most loyal and the Sun City market is always a pleasure to attend.  Sadly, however, our sales there often do not cover the cost of driving the trailer to the market 2-3 times per month.  Beginning this month, we will be appearing at the Sun City market once per month.  We WILL be at the market this coming Tuesday, July 20th and again August 17th.

SUNDAY IS LIVE OAK DELIVERY DAY:  We will be making a monthly delivery to Live Oak Unitarian Church (3315 El Salido Parkway, Cedar Park) on Sunday after church.  We'll be available for order pickup from 12:15-12:45 in the church parking lot.

MARKET TIMES AND LOCATIONS: Check out the Calendar page of the website for the most up-to-date schedule of markets and deliveries.  Below is our schedule for the next few weeks:
