It can be difficult to know where to start in regenerative agriculture. What practices? In what order? I'll be featuring a number of resources on the blog that provide good information and real-life examples.

The first in the series is a ranch from Central Texas that has successfully moved from conventional cattle grazing to a multi-species regenerative ranching operation. They make and use their own worm tea and incorporate a variety of livestock to create a healthy ecosystem. Father and son team Jim and Stephen West walk you through the basics of soil health as well as a foundation in regenerative grazing topics:

  • How synthetic fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides create a cascading degredation of soil microbiome

  • Why rotational grazing is so important

  • Producing and using worm compost for improving fertility

  • Integrating poultry, browsing livestock and cattle

  • Developing critical plant biodiversity

This is one of a series of webinars produced by Grassroots Carbon. Grassroots Carbon partners with ranchers across the United States to help them get rewarded for storing carbon by matching them with corporate carbon credit buyers. If you graze 500 or more acres in their coverage area (Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana) and are using or interested in transitioning to regenerative practices, they could be a good resource.
